The Information and Data Protection Commissioner, Mr. Besnik Dervishi, hosted Mr. Saad Alfaragli, Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The purpose of his visit to Albania is to assess the situation for guaranteeing human rights in accordance with the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations Organization (UN) for Sustainable Development and other international agreements of 2015. In the framework of this document, the Commissioner’s Office contributes to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”.

During the meeting, the legal framework in force for both areas of the authority’s responsibility was presented, as well as its role in fulfilling the monitoring and supervisory functions. An important point of the meeting was the acquaintance of Mr. Alfarargi with the entire modernization process of Albanian legislation. During the meeting, a summary information was also presented with regard to the awareness-raising activity of the Commissioner’s Office for the acquaintance and exercise of these rights in practice, interacting with different interest groups throughout the territory of the country. Finally, the Special Rapporteur was provided with an overview of the challenges currently facing the Office of the Commissioner.
