At the invitation of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner, Mr. Besnik Dervishi, the Commissioner of the Information and Privacy Agency in Kosovo, Mrs. Krenare Sogojeva-Dërmaku paid her visit in Tirana. The visit aimed at signing the Cooperation Agreement, of technical nature between the two institutions, which have a special relationship between them, and due to this Agreement, this cooperation will be further consolidated.

This Cooperation Agreement is based on three main pillars: continuous exchange of experiences and staff to increase the professional and administrative capacities, in the framework of the legislation modernization in both areas of the activity according to the most advanced European standards; support to the Information and Privacy Agency to join various organizations such as the International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC), European Conference of Data Protection Authorities (ECDPA), Consultative Committee of the Convention 108 of the Council of Europe (T-PD), etc.; the mutual recognition as countries with an adequate level of adequacy of personal data protection for a sustainable development of the economy and exchange between the two countries. During the meeting, the possibility of implementing joint projects was also discussed. They aim at increasing trust and awareness-raising of citizens to exercise their rights, at the same time, with the increase of transparency and accountability of Public Authorities and responsibility and ethics by public and private controllers/processors.

The Commissioners stated that this Cooperation Agreement is a very important step and the beginning of a new dynamic stage in bilateral relations.

The Commissioner, Mr. Dervishi stated that “we are here today with a concrete product and I wish this cooperation to be very successful in the future”. Each of the institutions has its own experience gained during the years of their activity, but I think we have a lot to exchange with each other”.

The Commissioner Sogojeva-Dërmaku stated that “the goal of both countries is to join the EU and every experience is welcome, in particular, in this stage when the legislation is in compliance with the European policies”.

Mrs. Sogojeva-Dërmaku was welcomed in special meetings by the Deputy Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Mrs. Ermonela Felaj and the People’s Advocate, Mrs. Erinda Ballanca.
