The Office of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner has been elected as Executive Committee member of the International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC).
The steering body of the Organization was elected for the first time by the membership, in the frame of its restructuring and reorganization process as set out by the Johannesburg Charter. The election as member of the ICIC Executive Committee is a recognition of Albania’s efforts towards greater transparency and accountability by Public Authorities, and the fulfillment of the obligations stemming from the right to information legislation. This was on the other hand enlisted among our main objectives in the international engagement. The Office of the Commissioner is currently a member of Executive Committee of the Global Privacy Assembly (GPA).
In addition to the Executive Committee, ICIC members unanimously elected the Chair of the Executive Committee, the Comisionada Presidente Blanca Lilia Ibarra Cadena, National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Personal Data Protection (INAI).
The newly elected Executive Committee consists of the following members: Bermuda – Office of the Information Commissioner; Brazil – Office of the Comptroller General (Host 2021); Chile – Chilean Transparency Council; Kenya – Commission on Administrative Justice Office of the Ombudsman; South Africa – Information Regulator (South Africa); United States – The Office of Government Information Services.
The newly established Executive Committee will take over from the Governance Working Group at the close of the 2021 annual conference (virtual), 23 – 24 June 2021.
The International Conference of Information Commissioners first met in 2003 as a global platform which connects Information Commissioners, Ombudspersons and other bodies charged with overseeing the implementation of Access to Public Information legislation, in order to foster the protection and the promotion of access to public information as a fundamental pillar to social, economic and democratic governance.
