Under the theme “Personal Data Protection”, an online training gathering high management level civil servants from various institutions was organized by the Albanian School of Public Administration (ASPA).
Lecturer of this module was Mrs. Pjerina Gaxha, Director of Personal Data Protection Department within the Commissioner’s Office. The training focused on providing information relating to data protection legal framework, the main principles of personal data processing, the rights of data subjects (individuals) such as information, access, rectification rights, etc., or controllers’ obligations for a secure process. Furthermore, the trainees received first-hand information on innovations of the international legislation in this field, namely with the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
The training was also addressed by the Information and Data Protection Commissioner, Mr. Besnik Dervishi. In his address, he emphasized that public and private controllers must take all the necessary measures to protect citizens’ personal data, particularly in the context of the challenges imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. On the other hand, he stressed the necessity to striking the right balance between privacy and transparency, as one of the main principles of good governance and accountability of Public Authorities.
