Staff training was held today on the theme “Data protection officers and Codes of Conduct under the General Data Protection Regulation”. This training event organized in the frame of the activities of the “EU-Albania Anticorruption Twining Project” gathered representatives of the Bank of Albania, the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Power Distributor Network Operator.

The lecturer, Mr. Stefan Niederer of the German Federal Data Protection and Freedom of Information Authority, introduced attendees with the role and functions of the Data Protection Officer (DPO) under Articles 37, 38 and 39 of the GDPR, whose position requires his involvement in all the aspects of data collection/processing and the protection of personal data. Furthermore, Mr. Niederer discussed the Codes of Conduct under Articles 40-41 of the General Data Protection Regulation, as means helping controllers and/or processors to improve standards with regard to information, transparency, accountability and data protection.
